Earl D. Bennett Letter – 1-8-44 To Sis

TRANSCRIPT

DATED 1-8-44

Dear Sister –

Greetings today – I should have written you sooner but I’ve been busy trying to keep out of devilment and I’ve also been having a swell time over the holidays. I really had a nice time Xmas & n. years day even though I couldn’t be at home.

I recd. cards & lots of nice gifts from every one almost I ever knew and I still have some of the candy left. I also recd. the nice bracelet & gifts from home and I really think they are swell. I recd. a nice box of candy cigarettes & several things from C.K. & Mary & some from Aunt & Uncle & Lee sent me a swell present. It was a picture in nurses uniform (awful wasn’t it) and a bible mind you encased in a swell (?) cover & a swell stationary set. I am going to put all my cards in a box someday soon & send them home. I wish I could bring them instead of send them. Don’t you?

I’m almost through school now & should graduate next week some time. I’m going to try & get home again before I go over because if I don’t get to while I’m here it may be my last chance. I think I’ll tell my C.O. I’m coming to get married & maybe he will let me go.

Say – you & C.K. are having more darn trouble than a barrel of monkeys aren’t you. I sure hope you don’t have much trouble with your ear.

I’m going to Florence this afternoon and flip my lid for a while. I have a girl here now. She’s rather cute but you know me. “I love em all.” Ha! Ha!

I haven’t gotten my overcoat as yet but it should come to Clarences soon.

Well be good & tell Mom & Pop to do the same.

Your Bro

P.S. How are you and B. Johnson getting along.
